Roots and Recipes Draft

Yes, it was that time of year again when the gold and silver lions would dance down the streets of Chinatown as the firecrackers crackled as the lions danced.  The streets of Chinatown are filled with the bustling crowd trying to see the lion dances and get their hands on the delicious food.  That’s right, it’s Chinese New Years.  There is one thing in my head that sticks out the most whenever Chinese new years come around each year.  It wasn’t watching the lions dance or even going to Chinatown it was that one lucky phone call we got from Uncle Jerry
My uncle Jerry was a balding Chinese man with a kind face.  He had lost his leg to diabetes.  He was single and lived in a really small apartment.   He loved cooking food for all his friends and family during Chinese New Years and birthdays. “His stove was about half the size of a regular stove.  So it amazed us how much food he could cook in his apartment.” My mom said, one food that really stood out when we went there was Chow Min.  I could smell the steaming mixture of Charsiu , carrots, and oyster sauce floating toward my direction.   The smell of the food excruciatingly churned my stomach, making me excruciatingly hungry.   It’s sad that my Uncle Jerry died a few years ago to diabetes.  Since mu Uncle Jerry is in a better place I decided to ask my mom to make the Chow Min since she is an amazing cook and she was pretty close to my Uncle Jerry.
“ My Uncle Jerry would cook Chow Min every New Years because noodles  in the Chinese culture represents

  1. Hey Chad, I think you have to finish the essay. Your beginning is a very nice it's like a tribute to your uncle who pasted away. Maybe you could describe more and use more specific details about your uncle. Also talk more about the Chow Min and what is so special and important about your uncle's chow min. Other than that really good job you just have to do that and you have the right angle for the essay.

  3. Chad, i also agree w/ Mikayla. You should finish up your essay & add more sensory details. But over all, you did a good job.

  4. Hi Chad,
You've got a great beginning for the essay. It connects the food to the event and to your Uncle Jerry who was so special in your life. You build nicely to the recipe itself and then it just cuts off. Be sure that when you post these drafts that they are "critique ready." You need to respect your team members and give them a draft that will be worth their time and effort to critique.
