As our grey van slowly pulled up into the dark driveway of the green house I saw a person with shaggy black hair, a slight goatee, and eyes which were once nice and warm now looked cold, empty, and lost. “Well he’s home again. Better get dad to talk to him with me.”, My mom said with a cautious and hushed tone. My body seemed to freeze right there in the car as the engine came to a quick stop. I managed to get myself out of the van as fear slowly crept up my body. For you see, this seemingly strange boy was my brother.
"Why did he have to come home today.", I said quietly to myself. Not that I didn't miss my brother when he was gone. In fact I missed him so much my heart would seem to shatter. It's just that every time he came lately it would not end well. KNOCK! KNOCK! A deafening knock on the door came from outside. "HURRY UP AND OPEN THE DOOR!", yelled my brother with a voice full of anger. "I'm coming and don't speak to me like that!", My mom snapped back. As the barrier which separated us from him lifted up I felt my heart start to beat like a machine gun. BU-BUMP! BU-BUMP!
About four years ago my brother got into a bunch of trouble with drugs and violence. Those two factors mixed with an already fowl anger could turn my brother into a real foul beast. A couple of months ago his anger became so foul and messed that we just told him to leave. Now he comes up every once in a while to try to scam up some food. As I had stated before whenever he comes around it never ends well.
"Get me food.", my brother demanded. "If your going to speak to us like that you can leave.", my mom sternly said. "Now sit down." My brother slowly stumbled into the garage and sat down. "So are you ready to return to the family and quit your bad habits.". "I don't know your the one who told me to come here.", my brother said referring to the letter my mom wrote saying that we missed him. "We miss you but, we want you back when you are ready to be part of the family.". "Whatever, you guys don't even care about me. If you did you wouldn't have kicked me out.". "We kicked you out because you were doing drugs and flying off the handle.". "SCREW YOU GUYS!". My brother yelled.
"GET OUT!!", my mom yelled fed up with my brothers disrespectful attitude. As the white garage door closed down on my brother you could feel the knocks as he pounded on our house shaking the whole house violently. "IF YOU DON'T LET ME IN I'LL KILL MYSELF!! JUST YOU WAIT TO WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN TO YOU!!". Then all of a sudden I heard a giant WHAM and saw our screen window get completely totaled.
Finally I had no choice as I took out my phone and typed in the three numbers. The three numbers that I did not want to call but was forced to. 911. As I looked over I saw my moms eyes start to water. What my brother was breaking her heart. Heck! He was breaking my heart. I then looked back at my phone. "What kind of sick brother are you calling the cops.", my conscious was telling me. Then I heard another voice in my head that said , "Do it, call the cops it is the only way to get peace.". The voices in my head started to get louder and louder until my head felt like it was about to split open. Finally, I decided to silence the voices by pressing the call button. "911 what is your emergency.".
After I was done with the talk with the officer the house was finally quit. I walked up to my still crying mother and gave her a hug. Suddenly I everything became blurry and I felt large tears drop down my face as I was hugging my mom. I have grown through experiences like this because it has taught me to grow up. It has taught me to be able to comfort people when they are feeling down and how to make decisions to help the family.
CHAAAAD!,
ReplyDeleteFor real this story messed me up. You were very transparent and I can totally respect that you take your writing seriously. Well I really like the dialogue. I remember you asking me about swearing and I was totally waiting for it LOL! But the dialogue captures your voice and the emotions and the gut wrenching words. I do wish there was more effect on the 911 moment. "Finally I had no choice as I took out my phone and typed in the three numbers. The three numbers that I did not want to call but was forced to. 911." I don't really want to say how to do this but I mean this is the defining moment where you came of age where you became a man so it would have been nice to have detail on that. I did however like this line," Finally, I decided to silence the voices by pressing the call button. '911 what is your emergency." As well as your conclusion but remember to show me how you matured and how you learned.
YOU ARE A BOSS!
